The Music Therapist is responsible for the development, implementation, and evaluation of a music therapy program designed to meet specific needs of paediatric patients and their families. The Music Therapist fuctions as a member of the Child Life Services. They act in a professional manner, adhering to the professional standards of practice of the Canadian Association for Music Therapy, The College of Registered Psychotherapists and the principles of patient and family centred care.

Regular Full-Time

Rate of pay:         $34.65 per hour – $43.31 per hour

Hours:                  30.00 hours per week

Qualifications

  • Successful completion of a Master’s Degree in Music Therapy
  • Registration with the College of Registered Psychotherapists (CRPO) or eligible for registration required
  • Accredited or eligible for accreditation with the Canadian Association of Music Therapy required
  • Neurologic Music Therapy (NMT) preferred
  • Registered Psychotherapist preferred
  • Minimum one year recent, related experience
  • Experience working with children as a Music Therapist in a health care setting and competence in areas of:  growth and development, play and family dynamics, interventions to support coping, interpersonal communication skills, observation and assessment skills in reactions of children and families to hospitalization and illness and a basic understanding of children’s illnesses
  • Excellent or strong guitar and vocal skills
  • Basic Microsoft Office computer skills
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to the principles of patient and family centered care
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to patient and staff safety at LHSC
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to LHSC’s vision, purpose and values
  • Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis
